Scholarship Requiring Letter Outlining Skill, Advancement and Career Goals

  • The Dallas CSI Scholarship requires recipients to be from select counties in Texas. Students will be contacted by email and encouraged to submit a scholarship application. The scholarship is available to undergraduate and graduate students who have completed two years of University credit and have at least one year remaining to complete the professional degree in Architecture.

Suggested outline for Proposals

  • Scholarships requiring proposals for study have specific criteria for eligibility. Please be sure you meet eligibility requirements. Students should not simply submit a copy of their M.S or PhD thesis proposal or dissertation for review. Proposals for study must clearly state and define a topic of investigation. A suggested outline is below.

    • Introduction
Write a paragraph which describes your topic, the approach to your research and the expected results.
    • Literature Review
Discuss the literature which is in the area of your research that provides background material and shows that you have an understanding about what others have done and how your proposed effort will extend what others have studied.  You should have 5 to 10+ articles that demonstrate that you have given real thought to this area.
    • Research Approach
Describe the activities you propose to accomplish and how these efforts will lead to the results you hope to show.  This section needs to show that you understand what you need to do to get meaningful results from the research you do.
    • Itinerary
If travel is needed or required for your research, describe where are you going and for how long. The itinerary should be detailed and realistic. Note: All travel and study for the Romieniec Graduate Traveling Fellowship must be completed before August 31, 2018.
    • Cost of the Study
Present a short budget of any expected costs (if any).  You may need to travel or purchase materials.  A paragraph and table of cost (if any) are sufficient for this section.  Note that this is intended to be a scholarship to assist your education so a zero cost with just your time is fully acceptable.
    • Expected Educational Benefit
Research is intended to extend knowledge and your understanding of new areas.  Why you are interested in the subject, what you expect to learn and how that will benefit your career are worthwhile discussions to include.  This section is important in that it contains the value that you expect to achieve.

Conditions of the Scholarship

  • Please note that you must satisfy the following conditions before your scholarship/fellowship will be finalized. Failure to accomplish #3 and #4 below will result in the withdrawal of scholarships and fellowships.
    1. All scholarships and fellowships including awards that support study away from the Texas A&M campus (with the exception the Edward J. Romieniec Graduate Traveling Fellowship) will be awarded one-half of the scholarship/fellowship amount in the fall semester and one half of the scholarship/fellowship amount in the spring semester. You must be enrolled as a full-time student in the Department of Architecture and remain in good academic standing at Texas A&M University in order to receive the fall and spring scholarship/fellowship payments.
    2. Students receiving the Edward J. Romieniec Graduate Traveling Fellowship may elect to receive full payment for travel. All travel and completion of the study must be completed by August 31, 2018.
    3. You must write a letter of thanks to the donor prior to the banquet. DO NOT MAIL YOUR LETTER. Original letters must be submitted to Andrea Branscum in the Department of Architecture office (Langford A424) by Friday, April 07, 2017, two weeks prior to the scholarship banquet. The Department will mail the letter for you. A picture of you accepting the scholarship/fellowship will be included in the mailing to your donor.
    4. You will be required to attend the scholarship banquet on Saturday, April 22, 2017. Students attending study away programs other than internships are exempt from attending. Students on internship are expected to attend if within reasonable driving distance.  Written permission requesting absence from the banquet must be submitted to the Department Head two weeks prior to the event.
    5. As a scholarship/fellowship recipient your dinner at the banquet will cost $25.00. If you would like to bring a guest, additional dinners may be purchased for $50.00. Payment for all dinners must be received by Friday April 07, 2017
